Determining The Health Benefits Of Antioxidant Properties Located In Muscadine Grapes

by Marty Zalenko

The value of antioxidant properties in Muscadine grapes is just now being realized. This native grape was used by Native Americans before the appearance of the white man. Originally it only grew in the wild, but now there are 300 different varieties being commercially grown.

These vines grow in Southeastern United States and are found elsewhere in the form of jams, jellies and juice. In addition to the wild bronze and black Muscadines they are now available under commercial cultivation, in green, bronze, red, and black. They do not grow in bunches like the ordinary variety but in small clusters.

Extensive research has revealed 88 anti-oxidant compounds, anti-E.coli characteristics and ellagic acid in this grape. Medical benefits found include killing Cronobacter sakazakii, a lethal bacterial found in baby formula and milk. In addition, studies with mice have found joint and muscle inflammation relief.

Anti-oxidants are well known for preventing damage to cells, which is useful in preventing cancer. As a matter of fact, one study found the red Muscadine juice caused colon cancer cells to destroy themselves. This fruit has 20 chromosomes, more Resveratrol and dietary fiber than rice or oat bran, high Quercetin, and has 40 times higher antioxidant levels than the ordinary variety.

In recent years, researchers have turned more toward natural foods to find cures for the ailments of the human race. Spectacular discoveries have been made and it is expected that more will follow. Being able to cure or prevent diseases that are now fatal or disabling will be of great benefit to all.

The antioxidant properties in Muscadine grapes are catching the attention of the medical world. As studies revealing their benefit in fighting cancer, digestive diseases, heart disease, arthritis, and other ills become more prevalent, the product will be recommended more and more for these conditions. Using natural products for a healthy life is much better than using artificial ones.
